I was actually thinking about this yesterday. A government's function is analogous to a parent, i.e. protecting the people it's responsible is priority #1. If it consistently refuses to do that, then that's not quite a government anymore, by definition.
The only way that a state is analogous to a government is if you lived in an abusive household where your parents had a monopoly on violence, forced you to give you a portion of anything you ever eaneed and threatened to put you in the cellar if you didn't do as they said and or threatened you with death if you kept disobeying.
Sure if we also proclaim the opposite is to be parentless and as such statistically like to be homeless and constantly having others steal and exploit you because they got lucky.
Yeah, it really sucks. They brutal childhoods and lives and you need to get them actual help through churches and non-profits who deal with the core issue, not just paste over it with endless welfare checks from soulless government social workers.

It does suck and it's awful that the burden is on small underfunded volunteers instead of a dedicated pay as you go system.
