The proposal is for the platforms to implement measures to scan for harmful material on devices.

The platforms already control the code you are running and have access to the decrypted communication in your devices.

You trust them to not extract it and use it against you. The same will be true either way.

The real danger is that the harmful material can suddenly be redefined to include things we now consider lawful like political dissent.
