I wonder if it's possible to create a game engine with this, for dream like open world games. Since the demo runs well in the browser I assume that it would allow for higher FPS than usual games
A YouTuber (the same who drew my attention to polycam) recently made a proof of concept for something like that : he fed the 3D gaussian splatting algorithm with a bunch of renders of a 3D scene. The concept seems to make sense, though modern computer graphics technology has gone a long way in terms of real-time raytracing so it's not clear 3D Gaussian splatting really is advantageous. I think more experiments are needed.
