Comment on Ask HN: Could layoffs be companies firing deadweight?parent

Comments

I won’t say where I’m at but there are engineers here that haven’t committed a single line of code in three months. I’m not sure what they do all day as they’re not in meeting either aside from stand-ups.

That can be incredibly demoralizing for the employees who actually contribute. In these cases it is actually good for morale to have layoffs.

Don't they talk about what they do in the stand-ups?

Nope, cameras off, never say a word.

Don’t their managers ask them in the stand-up-s? How do their managers handle it?

Their (manager) personality is passive. We have enough people to cover, so why rock the boat?
