Comment on Ask HN: What's better for long-run productivity: caffeine or no caffeine?

Comments

I usually drink a couple of cups of green or black tea per day, usually with honey. At some point, when I was in the office, I was drinking up to 4 cups of tea per day. I was miserable at work, tired for other reasons, and felt like I needed it. I was probably pretty dependent on it at that time.

I understand very well how you might end up drinking a lot caffeinated beverages, but I wonder if you can have a placebo effect by drinking water and taking a quick walk outside instead?

Yes tea is a good option, I've done a bit of reading on L-Theanine and tried some caffeine pills paired with L-Theanine with fairly good results. Supposedly it negates the negative effects of caffeine and you don't build a tolerance to it, but I'm not entirely convinced.

I really like your water and exercise idea though, that would certainly be a nice substitute!
