I would tell myself that there are more optimal ways to give money to charity. Then I realized that doesn't work unless you actually do that, so I did that. Now I happily stare down panhandlers while giving them nothing. (The caveat's that now that I'm living off of savings, I think the most optimal charity is me. For some reason reading about timeless decision theory didn't help with this.)
