I'd love to see an article from the crackers in question, Paradox, that talks about how they bypassed the protection. I am aware this is from 2001, and it seems Paradox have been pretty much inactive since the hyped Windows Vista crack.
Towards the end he talks about how the crack works. The crackers simply cracked the copy protection which runs at the beginning of the game. After the cracked copy protection had run, the crack restored the original code, making all the checksums correct, and thus bypassing them.
