The article didn't mention this, but in my experience, the person who most negatively affects the team's chemistry is the first one out.

Negativity gets people fired more than anything else. If it's true, it inevitably reflects on the managers. If not, well, the complainer is blaming others for what are probably his own problems. In both cases, it impacts the entire team, which is where the real damage happens.
