Take a look at movies, television shows, etc. A person in tech is typically classified as a geek, a nerd, loser, etc. Middle school and high school are a big popularity contest, but that's also the age where they are very malleable. Until the negative connotations stop, people will continue to be afraid to enter the tech space.
