True conservative think wants to keep the government out of things and let companies decide things, as companies can switch policies at a much faster pace than the government.

What is thought as "good parenting" keep switching. If you look at child birth and newborn care in the US over the last 100 years, you will find a lot of different things that have been done.

The current trends are pushing for moms and dads to get as much bonding as possible right from the start. I think this is a great idea and really should be a standard.

Also, the US does require employers to give employees 12 weeks of unpaid leave (without threat of firing) for large family events (from the FMLA law). It's not perfect, but at least it's something.
