Having graduated from RIT I can tell you that most grads going into junior or entry level positions experience the same thing. That one year of co-op and a campus that breathes tech makes all the difference.
I have to ask ... do they really teach Dependency Injection, Prototypes, Factories and other design patterns in school? If so, I am (a) very impressed, or (b) a bit obsolete because my CS education didn't even touch on these topics.
