I never found any of those things surprising. Of course rich men are getting away with those things. Of course he killed himself when he finally got caught.
If someone believed he committed even a portion of the crimes attributed to him and his associates, it follows that someone would have to believe he had firsthand knowledge. There's no reason to believe he would kill himself while still retaining that leverage.
