As I said in a different comment: every point in music theory should result in a "so that is why I already am doing [point]". Well maybe there is a use for "hmm, that is interesting, I wonder how [some song] would sound if I did [new point]." However abstract theory isn't useful for putting together good music. It can help understanding why music is great, and it can help polish good music into great.
