My 10 year old mono laser printer requires a cartridge very two years or so. This is despite being a lot more heavily used than the average domestic printer.
I got my laserjet secondhand 10 years ago. It was already 10 years old at this time. It's been low on toner since the beginning but shaking the toner cartridge is usually enough to get usable prints the few times a year I need it (return labels, letters). It's a great, reliable device!

Might be a good buy, I don't print much mostly need black and white shipping labels
A mono laser is a good fit for that. The up front cost is higher but the cost per page is tiny.
