After having a meteoric ascension in career in my country due to being fairly competent, smart and studying like crazy I was hired to work in a Canadian company as a Senior to do work that I did when I was an intern. I quickly discovered that although I was a Senior to many I received far less than everybody else, including coworkers hired from my country the same way as me. I tried my best aced every review and when we talked about higher pay they never had a budget. The conflict between being very well paid for someone from my country but being the worst in the company, also thinking that I could improve things inside the company for more than two years took a toll in my mind.
