“Give House Democrats an ounce of power, and they’ll use every bit of it to fundamentally transform America into an unrecognizable socialist hellscape,” said Mike Marinella, a spokesman for the House Republicans’ campaign arm.
I don't support expanding the Supreme Court, but quotes like this give me pause. This kind of scorched-earth campaigning has given us an increasingly partisan Supreme Court, which in turn seems to want to entrench partisanship in Congress.
It's not great to be in a position to say "We need to reduce partisanship, so put my party in charge of doing that". But when the other party has become so blatantly delusional and paranoid, I don't see any alternative.
I still don't want to expand the Supreme Court just to try to restore partisan balance. If Republicans would just bring down the temperature a bit, I think the question would go away on its own. As it is, scorched-earth policies receive scorched-earth responses.
