Without backups, odds are good it was going to happen eventually, regardless of Claude's involvement. Yeah, it sucks, but humans make mistakes, too. And, sometimes disks fail.

Anyway, people are far too trusting of their own ability to be perfect and the models' ability to be perfect. Which is why you have to keep backups if you value your data.

While I agree with you, I would take this even further that it is important to use correct sandboxing and isolation when developing with these tools. I know it can be easier said than done since it is easy for us to become trusting of the tools the more we use them and see many successful runs. It only takes the one time though.
