Plug-in solar and batteries are behind the meter and can reduce bills without worrying about the utilities net metering nonsense. Hopefully we'll soon have plug and play thin and light products and people can get creative, cover multiple surfaces, knock off most of the bill.
Behind the meter yes but the meter does still need to be a smart meter and programmed correctly otherwise you could get billed for any extra power that is exported to the grid.
