You need humans to decide which problems are worth spending time on, and to evaluate which results are important

Why?

Because they likely have a better sense of what could and/or will be fruitful. Same reason an experienced mathematician likely is better at this than a random person off the street.

AI isn't quite good enough yet to pick problems that are an effective use of our limited resources.
