One wonders what it is about the older devices that make them incompatible.
Edit: I just asked Apple Support and they said it's also compatible with earlier devices and non-Apple products as well. It's just that the compatibility charts bottom out at the iPhone 5.

Brilliant, thanks for saving us. I was worried if it would be incompatible with my M1.
