Depends. The more niche you're interest the larger you need in general. Everyone needs food so you only need about 1000 to get those basics. Though at that size you are making as monthly trip to the big city where they have better selection and better process. 100,000 probably can't support a unicycle shop, you need millions- but 50k supports a bicycle shop that might have a unicycle or might not.
Less than 100 is needed of your interest is shooting guns of your back deck, so there is no universal answer. There are a lot of other back to nature things on those lines as well.
