Comment on Will Self-Hosted Local AI Go Mainstream, or Stay a Niche for Nerds?

Comments

Personally, I think local is the only way AI will thrive or even survive.

We've been here before. At one point, standard computing was centralized among a handful of large service providers. Then the PC came along and made it local and as they say --- the rest is history.

AI is unpredictable --- and so is the billing. Users of services can't predict the quality of the results or the final, overall cost to achieve a goal.

It all boils down to, "Do you feel lucky, punk?".

I think Deepseek V4 Flash 0731 is good enough for every day tasks, it will be like a car outside the city. You have one and you'll maybe rent a special car (frontier model) for special situations.
