This is not a coincidence: City Planner Fritz Schumacher formulated the "Featherplan" [0], which outlay how the city would grow outwards while always maintaining common access to greenery, parks etc.
As a result, many quarters of Hamburg not just have direct access to a park, but to a park which directly connects them to the city center, thus it is possible to enter your local park and cycle/walk/jog straight into the city center without ever (really) leaving the greenery.
