Indeed, such chips must require connecting with our US based servers, or they fail to function. Encrypted connections will insure they cannot be "spoofed".

The tech will be built into the critically important layers of the chip design, cannot be merely blocked, work around-ed or removed from the mainboard.

During heightened tensions, or even war, the US side can deactivate or destroy the chips from afar. Inability to make a proper internet connection with US servers within a certain time frame will also trigger deactivation or destruction.

Somebody forgets to update a certificate and bricks a whole datacenter.
