And the number next to the player is their OVR or Overall Rating. It represents a player's combined skill attributes. It's calculated from weighted base stats (shooting, passing, defending and pace) that are displayed under their names.
Trying on free play, swap is working now (wasn't before) but there is still a bug or maybe that is how it is supposed to work:
Swap country and era in the same turn the first swap will be reset.

Ah I see it now - thanks! Fixed it.
Also added an OVR label next to that stat by player names.
