Comment on Facing bankruptcy after unauthorized Gemini API usage of about $128k

Comments

Details are scarse, but what they say is this:

From our side, this was unauthorized use of our API and completely inconsistent with our normal use. We asked Google for a review / adjustment, but it was denied based on policy.

It's possible there's some translation error, but if it's correct that their API was misused, and that lead to Gemini usage. Which isn't the vibe you get from the title.

In any case, doesn't Google support spending limits?

edit: Apparently not, 18 days ago a Google employee said this[1]:

Hi all, working on spend caps, so hopefully we’ll have a solution in AI Studio here soon!

In other words, don't use Google AI products in production.
