If I subscribe to a small number of low volume feeds, I want to read everything or voluntarily ignore it, and the UI helps me with that. If I subscribe to a higher volume feed, I can't possibly read everything and it's not useful.
I can subscribe to both types of feeds.
Unread emails don't mean someone wrote to me either. Most of them are marketing or confirmations of autopayments.
This somewhat sums it up for me quite well, the article discusses a real problem i have, but glosses over that it is not true for all.
I want to be able to have my "email like" feed for low-volume stuff i want to read all from, whilst such a "bookshelf" mode that was mentioned at the bottom would in my opinion be perfect for some high-volume rss feeds (hn for example)
