Comment on I Cut Ties with Science's Top Publisher

Editors are “asked to intentionally and proactively reach out to women researchers” and authors are instructed to suggest reviewers “with diversity in mind.”

Horrifying

In other words, editorial choices and peer review are to be guided not solely by competence but by demographic attributes.

The guidance just says to keep diversity in mind. I don't read it as indicating that diversity should trump field expertise. Does she understand what it means to keep something in mind?

I cannot stop but wondering — was I asked to review the manuscript because of my expertise in the subject matter or because of my reproductive organs?

This is such an overreaction.
