Technically, you could swap Eloquent for Doctrine which would solve the database issues but Laravel was built around using Eloquent and vice-versa, there’s very little documentation for using doctrine with laravel or using eloquent with symfony, it’d be easier to just use what grew up together.

Laravel is more akin to rails with its rapid application development but rails does it better.
