i came to the opposite conclusion. people are vastly different. interestingly initially i was only traveling in western countries and i paid attention to the differences between say europeans and americans, western and eastern europeans, etc. there were plenty of differences, but those differences disappeared when i reached asia. i found a culture and attitude that is vastly different from everything western. while one year in new zealand was enough to learn about it. 15 years in china aren't.

My traveling taught me that people are the same everywhere, but now that I know that, I no longer want to to travel just travel.
