Are state-of-the-art autorouters still based on A*?

From what I remember A* was used in the 80s before Specctra introduced a cost based push and shove capable approach in the mid 90s.

A* being what it is, is probably still a part of contemporary solutions, but I am surprised about the emphasis it got in the post.*
