This is why there should be a real manager, or a real senior engineer, in every meeting. It doesn't matter whether the kids have wandered off into talking about CS abstractions, or about their fantasy football leagues, or the meeting has turned into an eyes-glazed-over performative attendance event - if it's a real business, there needs to be a real grown-up saying (in effect) this is a waste of time, get back to work.
