Comment on 2 month hackathon on a remote tropical island

Comments

12 weeks on a remote tropical island, luxurious villa, 12 geniuses... a cook and housekeeper.. airfare.. time away from current projects... that sounds like a pretty hefty price tag per genius if it's a paid event. I think you may have trouble finding hackers to sign up when the reality sets in. I'd recommend you get to work finding serious sponsors because right now it sounds like a nice dream. Good luck good sir.

Thanks. We are fully aware it might be too expensive for people to cough up all the dough. Preliminary research show that a house for 12 people doesn't have to cost more then 500USD/person/month though. With a bit of smart marketing it should be possible to find some people interested to sponsor this..

I was thinking it'd be just like a startup incubator but instead of getting paid $20k for 5 to 10% you get to go here and get paid $10k

I want to try to stay away from the incubator model. Find a way to get there, hack, go home with good memories.
