Does the other party have an effective ad out there? No problem. Just find some theory under which it's not OK, and have your department of XYZ send a cease-and-desist letter to the media outfit.

Works even better if the outfit in question was already politically aligned with you. By the time the mess gets sorted out, the election is over.
