It would not be good to normalize all computing being done on crippled OSes that force you to go through their app store to run code they've granted permission for you to run (for now) and with them as an additional middleman in the purchase or subscription transaction.
That ship sailed long ago, the relevance of traditional OS's peaked a decade or more ago and is only going to go down from here.
Maybe. But it matters to me (and a lot of other folks given the continuing sales of boxes that run macOS, windows and Linux) that I didn't have put all my eggs on that ship (straining the metaphor a bit : )

That’s like saying trucks are not important because we have compact vehicles.
Vehicles are different for a reason. They are all important for different use cases.
