That's what snake oil salesmen said while clutching at their precious pearls. How dare anyone ask them to substantiate their claims?

Assuming good faith, It’s possible to ask for references and citations without being rude and unwelcoming.

“Hi, interesting work! Do you have any other recommended reading on $SUBJECT?”

Posting credentials and substantiating claims are two different things.
