I’m not sure how to put this nicely, but your managers don’t seem to have had good management training. The first clue is that they assign work. Your shop works in sprints, so I presume they’re trying to do agile. Management assigning tasks is the opposite of how it’s supposed to go.

Ideally, an engineering manager makes sure the team has what they need to be successful. Resources, processes, goals, training, etc. Is all of that taken care of and they want to be more involved?
