there's no reason to change the way the app works just because an anomalous thing is happening. i'd only consider it if it were to continue to consistently happen over a long period.

My point is that it's a cry for help, analogous to prison inmates talking to visitors through a pane of glass. A few changes in the app would be akin to adding conjugal visits.

One good reason might be that a dating site has very obvious and proven monetization opportunities.

yeah, it would be if the behavior were consistent. i would definitely not potentially ruin such a good site as reddit just because there's a weird week.
