I'm also 40 with 20+ years in software. 4 interviews out of 5 recently tried to do come leetcoding, but after a brief conversation about it 2 of them were reasonable and we worked with existing code instead. 2 did not and I walked out, both were somewhat larger companies.
I think if you're not in an urgent need of a job, it's ok to be selective. Leetcoding jobs will probably have a lot of rigidity in their work processes as well, and it's up to you to be willing to accept that or find something else.
