Actual mansions will have multiple kitchens, one "open" and for the family who lives there (often unused) and a second commercial kitchen run by the staff.

Open kitchens look great in pictures and when touring, but are quite annoying when you have children running around, or just want to be able to separate the activity from the noise.

They are great if you want to be in the room with the rest of your family while cooking or if you’re watching something on tv while cooking. I’ve never felt any desire to separate cooking from other activities going on in my house.

Is it uncommon to dislike the latent smell associated with cooking? I love cooking, but I go as far as changing my clothes after it to get rid of the smell. I could never imagine having an open kitchen.
