Good point. Maybe it could be a certification test, or maybe some roles wouldn't require it, but I think standardizing software engineering would help the industry by allowing people to focus on the field for their entire lives instead of being sidetracked into management.

I wish it was a specific credential in the US. Maybe with that extra gatekeeping it could prevent companies from abusing the role.
I'm not completely disagreeing.
But it is one of the few "engineering fields" where many of the top performers don't have degrees or formal educations.
It would be a shame to gatekeep devops engineers with leet code exams for example.
