Every time I see a post like this and read the comments I'm more convinced that there's a division between programming language enthusiasts and developers and only the former group cares about any of this.
The division between theorists and empiricists is as old as civilization itself.
The world truly belongs to those that can be both.
I agree with your take. In this case, we have one group that tries to explain the world using algebra while loudly endorsing that approach. Meanwhile, the other group just wants to write error-free state machines.
