Comment on Google says AI systems should be able to mine publishers’ work

Comments

This type of thing is going to send us back into some type of information dark age. If I was an author in 2023, I'd be doing print only else I know my work will probably be stolen by Google and Open AI the minute it's online.

Taking away the incentives to build and make easily available access to great content is just madness.

If I was a fly on the wall in these boardrooms, I bet Google and Open AI see this as a type of crisis themselves. The source of good and relevant training information is under threat, but the chance to make ridiculous amounts of money by taking and not paying for content is just so strong to provide shareholder value.

Print still has to work through some digital intermediary, unless you enjoy truly uncommon access to trustworthy and quality printing infrastructure. One of the first things that printing services are going to look into is feeding the works they print into ai systems.

There is a difference between using a publisher and putting something on Google books ?
