It's a great sysadmin tool, and great to write servers. It can be used for many other things obviously, but that's clearly its niche. And there's nothing wrong in being a niche language, after all, if the niche is big enough (and it clearly is). Javascript is also a niche language, after all. It's mostly a web language, and there's nothing wrong with that. So is C, which is slowly becoming the ultimate low-level glue language.
