I agree. AIs tool should not be open source but the organization behind it should definitely be a non-profit that's created for the public good and it's run as such. It can't be a for profit entity that's focused on making a buck.
Why should not be AI tools open source? In what way are they different from any other tool or software? How do you want to forbid open sourcing the code which implements some math? Will you also forbid publishing of AI related research?
Ok OpenAI will stop publishing their research now ... What good is in it? AI researchers will be loosing well deserved recognition. Right? And then they will be limited from opening their own business because of clause in their contract.
