They are entirely different things, only related by the word “dark”. Dark energy is “negative” energy in the sense that it drives expansion rather than slowing it down. Its energy density is also constant, meaning it is not diluted by expansion unlike matter (dark or not) and normal energy. It seems to be a fundamental property of spacetime.
