My personal website has a 'digital garden' section that has a number of sports highlights videos. Because I self-host, I shorten the videos to 30 seconds maximum and compress them heavily in Handbrake. The resulting videos are usually 1MB or under. They look OK when viewed in a browser window that's about the size of a YouTube embed. That's fine with me, they're the kind of short video you wouldn't want to watch full-screen.
