Comment on Ask HN: Should I be offsetting my carbon footprint? If so, how?parent

Fewer people will not help. We need to replace ~75% of global infrastructure and manufacturing, as it is carbon intensive. We also need more low cost energy, TODAY, to build the sustainable infrastructure. Additional capital into carbon intensive energy production is a better marginal investment to build a sustainable economy.

Fewer people is less carbon emissions in the future, carbon emissions whose cost curve rises as we approach and blow past our global carbon budget. 8 billion people exist today, population momentum puts us at 9-10 billion by 2100, that’s enough to transition considering how many folks can still be lifted out of poverty doing meaningful work.
