Not only in explicit ways such as availability of resources, supportive processes, and the cognitive comfort of being within an environment where things "make sense" to you (ie, you can operate on your instinct with confidence), but also in implicit ways that impact your internal motivation.
I've definitely been in positions before where a culture shock of environment change led to me being unmotivated, as well as just making stupid mistakes that I wouldn't have made previously. I've had previous coworkers that I would definitely consider hiring again as long as it was not back into the same environment I previously worked at them in, and had coworkers that were fantastic previously but I honestly wouldn't expect to have the same level of performance in a different environment.
Success in your career is not just about your skills (both hard and soft), but about finding an environment which is conducive to your particular skills and working style.
