Be sure you're quitting because you need to build something that can't be built any other way. If you have a fantasy of walking out the door and hitting it big, this is a warning sign. If the idea doesn't keep you focused for more than a few hours a day, and doesn't keep you up past midnight, that's another warning sign.
I agree. That is a good metric. Some say you should only build products that you would use yourself. While I use surveys, I don't think I'm the target market. So, your metric of building something that can keep you focused is much better.
